On this International Youth Day, AYF Youth Magazine celebrates Amb. Boimah
Kelkeh Metzger, a passionate youth leader whose work is breaking barriers, creating
opportunities, and empowering the next generation of Liberians.

A proud graduate of the College of West Africa and a participant in the IEP Ambassador
Program (April 2025 cohort), Boimah has built a track record of leadership through
training in youth development, mentoring, and advocacy. As the Founder and Lead
Advocate of the Initiative to Empower Youth (IEY), he is driven by the belief that young
people can be powerful agents of change when given the tools and opportunities to
lead.
Amb. Boimah’s advocacy has already delivered tangible impact. His engagement with
the British Council helped secure the establishment of an IELTS Testing Center in
Liberia, eliminating the financial and logistical barriers that once forced Liberians to
travel abroad for exams. Through IEY, he also spearheaded a cross-border drug abuse
sensitization campaign, “Reconnecting Lives, Empowering Communities Against Drug
Abuse”, reaching over 3,500 students in Sierra Leone and continuing the movement in
Liberia. His grassroots work also extends to promoting clean municipal environments
and community health awareness.
A mentor at heart, he guides young people in scholarship access, digital literacy, and
drug abuse prevention. For him, mentorship is not just about advice, it’s about
equipping youth with the skills, resilience, and vision to build better communities.
Guided by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of
hope,” He stands as a living example that one person’s determination can inspire
collective progress. His advice to other young changemakers is simple but profound:
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
From education advocacy to public health action, Amb. Boimah Kelkeh Metzger is
proving that hope, when matched with effort, can transform communities and create
lasting change.
